But the point is, you may want to accept a high deductible as long as essential services will be covered. You can probably come up with, or pay off, $5,000 if that is your deductible. But you may be much harder pressed to pay off $100,000 or more if you have no health insurance at all. Now if you had a large company group health insurance plan, you may think $5,000 is a lot of money. But large companies contribute a big portion of your premium.
