Many diabetiics assume that they cannot qualify for life insurance because of their chronic health condition. In my experience, many life insurers are very willing to consider individuals on a case by case basic. With improved health care, many diabetics are living long lives, and insurers know they have no reason to turn down this business without considering the individual situation.

In fact, insurance underwriters will look at the applicant’s health habits and the control of their condition. If a diabetic person controls their health issue with proper medication, diet, and exercise, they can find large policies, and they can often get them at a standard rate! On the other hand, if the disease is not controlled, they may find that their policies are rejected. Some applicants who seem to control their disease, but engage in poor health habits like smoking or overeating may find that their policies are accepted with an increased premium.

So, of course, it is best to search for life insurance with the best health habits and disease control. And not every insurer will look at individual health histories, so before you apply, try to understand how an insurer underwrites (or assigns risk) to policies. It would be better to start the application process without having a previous life insurance decline on your record.

It is easy to compare life insurance online with the many quote forms available on the internet.  A qualified life insurance agent should be able to look at the health history and know which insurer will be likely to give the applicant the best rate!
