If you are purchasing a new home you need to consider the homeowners insurance cost as part as the budget you need for your house. We have a page to help you compare homeowners insurance plans and rates. This page explains the various types of homeowners insurance, and will allow you to obtain free home insurance quotes with an online quote form.

Many homeowners just need a basic homeowners insurance policy. This plan will cover your home, property, and belongings against most loss. Flood insurance is seperate though, and needs to be considered as a different policy.

Renters will need a renters insurance policy which only covers belongings. On the other hand the landlord, will purchase a landlord insurance policy.

Condo owners probably only need to insure their belongings also, as the building association will usually have a building policy. Contact your condo association office if you are not sure what you need.

If you run a home business, you may need more than a basic homeowners policy as your contents are likely to be more valuable than your policy limits.

If you cannot find affordable rates, consider raising the deductible. The premium savings are considerable between a $500 deductible and a $1500 deductible. Make sure you can afford to pay the deductible difference, as that means you will be responsible for the dollar amount if you do suffer a loss.
