Inexpensive Dental Plans for Affordable Dental Coverage

We spend a lot of time talking about health coverage, and if you live in the US, you have probably noticed that the medical plans available (or not available!) to many people are not ideal. However, dental care is also expensive, and that issue does not get touched on as much.

However, if you have ever stood in a dentist’s office needing an emergency service for yourself or a family member (as I have), you know that some dental services are very expensive. Dental services are not normally covered by health insurance plans, and even fewer people in the US have access to dental insurance then have acess to health insurance! Furthermore, because of economic pressure, dentists are not as willing to work out payment plans with patients. I know that I, myself, had to present a credit card at the office while my son stood there with his nerves exposed after a minor accident. I mentally crossed my fingers, hoping I had enough balance left on the card to cover treatment. I did, but my sigh of relief was audible, I’m sure. And while I managed to get dental services for my son, I did see a young woman turned away because she had no way to pay the bill. All she got was a list of phone numbers and a phone so she could seek another dentist. While I was relieved that my own family emergency was handled, I could not help but feel sorry for that young woman.

If you do not have dental insurance, or if your dental insurance does not cover your expenses so they are affordable, consider an affordable dental plan. Many of them come from major companies and have large networks of dentists who are willing to work with patients to provide affordable services. Furthermore, they often cover services like orthodontics, cosmetic work, crowns, and dentures that are not covered by many dental plans.
